My next book, The Language of Fiction, will be published in Fall 2012. The book begins with the premise that fiction writers use language differently from writers in other genres, and that anyone wanting to write good fiction should think about language in specific, complex ways. Although the book will be useful as a supplemental text in creative writing classes, I also think it will be useful to anyone who writes, or even anyone who just likes to think about how fiction works.
